Blog

9:26 pm

So I finally go the site updated, what's next? More updates. There are lots of things left to do. I need to finish my HTML filter, so I don't have to filter all HTML out of my Blog posts. I need to add the Application admin to the Dashboard, as well as some of admin hooks. I also want to get the user profiles finished and allow users to register here. once users can register I will add make it so the Blog app becomes multiuser. I'm trying to decide on how to do a comments system also. I still have to finish writing the docs for Clay Framework and start on the docs for ClayCMS. I still need to add admin components to System, Privileges, and Users application. There are lots of things left to be done...

My goal this week is to make a new theme for this site. It will hopefully be ready by the end of the week. If not it will make it into my (new) regular update schedule 2 weeks from now.

The next version of PHP, which I am running here now, makes PHP a stricter language. That's good, but when you've been writing code for a long time sometimes you do not realize you are doing something wrong if it works. That has been the case here. I noticed some PHP warnings showing up a few weeks ago here. They had upgraded PHP to the latest RC, which I unfortunately run PHP 5.3 on my developer machine (not for long). The code on this site was almost a year old and I checked the code I would be uploading to check for any coding errors. It looked correct in my dev code. Unfortunately I had a class method returning a string, but some code that was using was older and expected an array. This was cauing warnings to show up, as it was being treated as an array, which is wrong.

9:10 pmSite Upgraded
I updated the site around 5pm, as planned. Unfortunately I ran into some problems, then I had to stop working on it for a while. The good news is the site is back and the my blog is restored. I did a clean install and just imported my old blog posts. It feel good to finally have the dashboard on here :)
6:49 amUpdate Day
There will be a site update today, probably around 5pm CST.
I've been working on new Guides for the Clay Framework (CF) documentation. I've also been working on setting up a structure so the docs are consistent. The CF Developer Guide will be the most comprehensive, covering every Library available in CF. I've also begun work on the guide "Building an Application using Clay Framework", which is the Application Developer Guide. I've created a new repo, named mycfsite, under clay on Github for this guide. I've also created a new repo under clay, named mycfplatform, which will serve as a companion repo for the guide "Building Application Platforms use Clay Framework". I have plans for other guides as well, including the CF Reference Guide (a compacted version of the Developer Guide) and ClayDB Developer Guide. The guides will cross-reference each other and be published in several formats.
1:47 pmGoal Week
I've decided I will update this site sometime between now and Sunday! I'll also try to import the current blog into the new installation. I'm going to try to set a goal for development each week and do bi-weekly upgrades.
The Clay Framework Developer Guide is in works and it currently part of the CF documentation on Github. You can find it at https://github.com/clay/clay-framework/wiki/Dev. The Developer Guide is currently a (incomplete) list of all the Libraries that are a part of CF and what they do. Eventually it will have more examples of using the Libraries, although it does have some simple examples now. I've put a lot of work into it the past week, so it is moving along nicely. I'll try to update it as I make changes. Also, I'm going to start pushing the updates via git, instead of using the Github UI.
I've been working on the documentation for Clay Framework (CF). You can find it at https://github.com/clay/clay-framework/wiki. It is incomplete, but it's a start. Eventually all of it will be structured better and on clay-project.com.
6:05 amNew Laptop
I love my iPad, but tablets are not a complete replacement for a laptop. So...I bought a laptop. It's pretty nice and was very inexpensive for the hardware it has. I keep catching myself touching the screen, haha. Already quite a few finger prints.
To my lovely wife and children :)
5:13 am
The user home pages will also be the basis for a project manager, help system, and other community driven applications.
